We were saddened to hear from Sally that our dear ‘Saffy,’ died on 18th September.
We had heard she was ill so it was not a surprise but still a great sadness and we send our sympathies to Sally, Simon and family who are heartbroken.

Sally and Simon adopted Saffy from us in July 2009 but they called in and walked her over several weeks prior to that whilst they waited for their new home to be ready, this meant they were able to build a bond with her as she was very traumatized from her earlier life.

When they came to adopt her we had a houseful of puppies and I asked them if they would prefer to take a puppy but Simon answered that they would much prefer to take Saffy who needed some work and tlc! This was one of my best rescue moments!

They were richly rewarded as we had originally thought Saffy was 5 + but as time went on we realised she must be much younger, probably about 2 so it’s not bad when the dog you adopted grows younger. They did a great job gradually building her confidence so she began to walk further and eventually enjoy trips out, but she never lost her fear of watering cans!

Sally writes, ‘Saffy has been with us from the very day that Simon and I moved into our first home together. She has comforted us through lows, endlessly growled with pleasure at every meal, was by our sides when we got married, and of course been the best big sister to Henry and Ellie.’

Saffy was one of our Guildford Stafford Celebrities. She appears twice in our 2021 calendar in April and July. Our thanks to Sally and Simon for giving her such a wonderful home and bringing her through her early trauma.

She will be greatly missed.
